Madonna of the Napkin
Bartolomé Esteban Murillo · 1668
Why it's great
Mary holds the baby Jesus in her lap, with a soft smile, in a gentle glow. Bartolomé Esteban Murillo painted it in about 1668, and the legend says he painted it on a napkin for a cook.
