Struggle for Survival

Christian Krohg Β· 1889

Why it's great

A long line of poor people stand in the cold outside a charity office, waiting for help in the snow. Christian Krohg painted this in 1889 to draw attention to poverty in Kristiania (Oslo). He wanted his art to make people care. It's one of the most important Norwegian paintings about social issues.
