Coming South
Tom Roberts · 1886
Why it's great
Immigrants on a ship's deck look out at their new home in Australia, as the ship sails into the harbor. Tom Roberts painted this scene of arrival in 1886 after he had made the voyage himself. The excited faces are very expressive. It's a famous picture about the hopes of new settlers.
