El gallero
Saturnino Herrán Guinchard · 1913
Why it's great
A man in a hat sits and holds his rooster, a fighting cock, ready for a match. Saturnino Herrán painted the ordinary people of Mexico, including farmers and workers, as heroes. The bold shapes show his love of Mexican folk life. It's a proud portrait of a Mexican tradition.
