Sails
Arthur Dove Β· 1912
Why it's great
Triangles of yellow, green and brown, like the sails of a boat, fill the painting. Arthur Dove painted this in 1912 to show the feeling of sailing, not just how a boat looks, and he is considered one of the first American abstract painters.
