Picture with a Black Arch

Wassily Kandinsky Β· 1912

Why it's great

A thick black arch swoops over a stormy mix of color in this 1912 painting by Kandinsky. He wrote that the black arch gave the picture a deep, serious sound, like a low note on a cello.
