Gismonda

Alphonse Mucha · 1894

Why it's great

A woman in an elaborate, shimmering robe of gold and green stands under an arch, in a tall, narrow design. Mucha made this poster for the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt in 1894, and it made him instantly famous. Posters of this style became known as Art Nouveau. It's one of the most famous posters in history.
