I lock my door upon myself

Fernand Khnopff Β· 1891

Why it's great

A woman sits in a dark room with her face turned away, with a lyre and a closed door. The title comes from a poem by Christina Rossetti. Fernand Khnopff painted this in 1891, a mysterious picture about being alone with your thoughts. It's one of the most famous Belgian Symbolist paintings.
