Indians in Council, California
Albert Bierstadt Β· 1872
Why it's great
Native Americans sit in a council in a meadow in California, with mountains rising behind them. Albert Bierstadt traveled in the American West and painted Indigenous people as part of the landscape. The painting shows a moment of gathering and discussion. It's a record of the West as one artist saw it.
