Self-Portrait with Her Daughter, Julie
Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun · 1789
Why it's great
A mother hugs her little daughter in a loose white dress, with a close and loving look. Vigée Le Brun painted herself and her child Julie, in a simple, natural style. It was a modern, tender way to paint motherhood. It's one of the loveliest mother-and-child pictures.
