Marie Antoinette with a Rose
Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun · 1783
Why it's great
The queen of France holds a rose in her hand in a simple dress and a straw hat, in a garden. Vigée Le Brun painted her as a lovely woman instead of a queen. The first version was shocking because it was so informal. It's a very charming portrait.
