The Large Blue Horses
Franz Marc Β· 1911
Why it's great
Three blue horses lean together in a curve that echoes the hills behind them. Franz Marc, who loved animals, said blue was the color of strength and spirit, so he painted these horses without any ordinary horse colors. He made the painting in 1911.
