The Tower of Blue Horses
Franz Marc Β· 1913
Why it's great
Four bright blue horses stand huddled together in a landscape of red, yellow and purple. Franz Marc believed animals were pure and innocent, and he used colors to show feelings, not to match real life. The painting disappeared during World War II and has never been found. It is one of the most famous lost paintings.
