Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA)
Antwerp's big museum has a collection of six centuries of Flemish art, from Jean Fouquet to Rubens and James Ensor, in a great building that reopened in 2022 after a long renovation.
History of the museum
The museum has its roots in 1810, when Napoleon returned paintings that had been taken to Paris to Antwerp. It was housed in its present building from 1890 and was closed for 11 years for a restoration that ended in 2022. Rubens, who lived and worked in Antwerp, is the museum's star.
