Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium
A group of connected museums in the heart of Brussels, with Old Masters of the Low Countries, Rubens, Bruegel, Magritte, David's Death of Marat and a fine Belgian modern collection.
History of the museum
Napoleon's government founded a museum in Brussels in 1801, which grew into the Royal Museums with a new neoclassical building in 1887. The Magritte Museum, with the world's biggest collection of the Belgian Surrealist René Magritte, was added in 2009. David came to Brussels when he was exiled from France after Napoleon fell.
