First Nations War Canoes in Alert Bay

Emily Carr Β· 1912

Why it's great

Large carved canoes sit on the beach of Alert Bay, a First Nations village on the coast of British Columbia. Emily Carr traveled to Indigenous villages along the Pacific Coast to paint and to record carvings and village life. She wanted to preserve what she saw. It's an important record of the West Coast in the early 1900s.
