The Indian Church

Emily Carr Β· 1929

Why it's great

A small white church stands in the dark forest of Yuquot on Vancouver Island, with a glowing light around it. Emily Carr painted it in her bold, expressive style, and its glowing, simple shape makes it unforgettable. Also called 'Church at Yuquot Village', it shows her gift for combining nature and faith. It's one of the most famous Canadian paintings and hangs in the Art Gallery of Ontario.
