Niagara
Frederic Edwin Church Β· 1857
Why it's great
The great Horseshoe Falls thunders over the edge, with mist, rainbow and green water. Frederic Edwin Church painted this in 1857, and when it was shown in New York, crowds were amazed. It made him famous overnight, and even critics in England admired it. It's the most famous painting of Niagara Falls.
