Cotopaxi

Frederic Edwin Church Β· 1862

Why it's great

A volcano erupts in Ecuador, sending smoke and a fiery glow into the sky. Frederic Church traveled to South America to see volcanoes, mountains and jungles for himself. The glowing sky and smoking peak are spectacular. It's a dramatic painting of nature's power.
