Nordic summer's evening
Richard Bergh · 1899
Why it's great
Two women sit by a calm bay in the soft, pale light of a Nordic summer night, when the sun hardly sets. Richard Bergh, a Swedish painter, painted this in 1899 to capture the dreamy mood of the northern evening. The still water and the glowing sky are magical. It's one of the most beautiful Swedish landscapes.
