Lake. Russia
Isaac Levitan Β· 1899
Why it's great
A wide, still lake lies beneath a heavy, cloudy sky, with a faraway shoreline. Levitan painted the huge, empty beauty of Russia. The calm and silence are almost musical. It's one of his last great landscapes.
