Evening Bells
Isaac Levitan Β· 1892
Why it's great
A river sparkles in the pink twilight, with a monastery and wooded banks, as the sound of bells seems to echo. Levitan painted a quiet scene on the Volga in a dreamy light. The soft sky is magical. It's one of the best-loved Russian landscapes.
