Portrait of the Artist's Sisters Playing Chess

Sofonisba Anguissola · 1555

Why it's great

Three sisters play chess, while a maid stands behind them, as one sister smiles at her own move. Sofonisba Anguissola painted her sisters in 1555, and it was one of the first group portraits that looked like a real family moment.
