The Land of Cockaigne
Pieter Brueghel the Elder Β· 1550
Why it's great
A farmer, a soldier and a scholar lie asleep and full of food under a tree, in a land where roast pigs run around with knives in their backs. Pieter Bruegel the Elder painted it in 1567, and it is a funny picture of an imaginary land where nobody works.
