Self-Portrait at the Age of 34
Rembrandt Β· 1640
Why it's great
A confident young man in a fine dark coat and big hat leans on a stone sill and looks right at us. Rembrandt painted it in 1640 when he was 34, and he made himself look like a rich gentleman in a Renaissance portrait.
