The City Rises
Umberto Boccioni · 1910
Why it's great
Horses, workers and a rising city explode in a blur of color and movement. Boccioni painted it as a celebration of the energetic new industrial city of Milan. He was a leader of Futurism, which loved speed and machines. It's one of the key paintings of the movement.
