Two maids on the Lijjnbaansgracht in Amsterdam
Isaac Israëls · 1894
Why it's great
Two maids stand and chat by a canal in Amsterdam, with brick houses and water behind. Isaac Israëls painted ordinary women and children in the city's streets. The bold, loose style is typical of the Amsterdam Impressionists. It's a lively scene of everyday work and conversation.
