A Game of Chess
Lucas van Leyden · 1510
Why it's great
Two young people sit at a chessboard, and a crowd of onlookers lean in to watch, in a quiet, hushed moment. Lucas van Leyden painted it in about 1510, and the gaze of each person is full of life.
