The Hunt in the Forest
Paolo Uccello Β· 1470
Why it's great
Hunters on horses and on foot, with dogs, chase deer through a dark forest in this picture where all the trees line up toward a far-off point. Paolo Uccello painted it in about 1470, and he loved perspective so much that he made a game of it.

Paolo Uccello was a Florentine painter born in about 1397. He was so crazy about the new science of perspective that he filled his pictures with lances, broken spears and tiled floors that line up to a point. He died in 1475.
