Las Hilanderas

Diego Velázquez · 1655

Why it's great

Women spin and wind wool in the front of a room, and in the back there is a tapestry with the story of Arachne. Diego Velázquez painted it in about 1655, and the spinning wheel is painted so fast it looks like a blur.
