The Lunch
Diego Velázquez · 1617
Why it's great
Three men sit around a plain table with bread, a pomegranate and a jug, and look as if they're about to start eating. Diego Velázquez painted it in about 1617, when he was just a teenager, and the faces are as real as living people.
