The Mancorbo Canal in the Picos de Europa
Carlos de Haes · 1876
Why it's great
A steep, rocky gorge with a rushing river rises between the high peaks of the Picos de Europa in northern Spain, with a stormy sky. Carlos de Haes, a Spanish painter born in Belgium, helped introduce realistic landscape painting to Spain. He made this picture of the mountains after a visit in 1876. It's a famous landscape of northern Spain.
