The Torment of Saint Anthony

Michelangelo Β· 1487

Why it's great

A group of strange, scaly demons drag Saint Anthony through the air by his hair and hit him. It's attributed to the young Michelangelo, painted in about 1487 when he was about 12, and it was copied from an engraving by Martin Schongauer.
