Johan Christian Dahl · 1824
Why it's great
A prehistoric stone burial monument stands in a snowy field in Denmark, under a winter sky. Johan Christian Dahl painted these ancient stones, which were fascinating to Romantic artists. The old stones seem to guard a secret. It's a mysterious winter scene.
