Johan Christian Dahl · 1832
Why it's great
A ship is wrecked on the rocky coast of Norway in a storm, with waves crashing and people struggling to survive. Johan Christian Dahl painted this dramatic picture in 1832, which was a huge success. He captured the power of the sea and the clouds. It's one of the great Romantic seascapes.
