A Seascape. The coast of the Island of Rügen in Evening Light
Johan Christian Dahl · 1818
Why it's great
Waves roll along the coast of the German island of Rügen in the soft light of evening. Johan Christian Dahl, the father of Norwegian landscape painting, painted this early in his career. He painted the sea and the clouds with careful study. It's a peaceful seascape.
