Birch Tree in a Storm

Johan Christian Dahl · 1849

Why it's great

A slender birch tree bends in the wind in a storm, with swirling clouds behind it. Johan Christian Dahl painted the same birch tree in many versions. The tree stands for strength against the wind. It's a symbol of Norwegian Romanticism.
