Low Church Devotion
Adolph Tidemand Β· 1848
Why it's great
Farmers and families in traditional costumes gather for a prayer meeting in a simple farmhouse, with plain wooden walls. Adolph Tidemand painted this scene of a Hauge movement gathering, a popular Norwegian religious revival. It's famous for its honest look at Norwegian country life. The picture has become a symbol of Norwegian folk culture.
