Death and the Miser
Hieronymus Bosch Β· 1500
Why it's great
A dying miser lies in bed while Death stands in the doorway and a demon tempts him with a bag of money. Hieronymus Bosch painted this around 1500 to show how nothing can be taken to the grave, a popular message after the long years of plague.
